Health Care: Feeding Program and Health Awareness Program

If you don't know I'm a medical student by day but a Technology blogger by night and I know this is not related to Technology but I just want to share this experience.

Our Health Care subject conducted a Feeding program and Health awareness program at San Luis Daycare center last March 13, 2014 (Thursday) with our department the Respiratory Therapy II.

We provided lots of activities not just Health awareness and Feeding program but we also conducted interesting games, health related role play and exercises, we aim to educate the children while having fun to make the program more interesting.

First we had our kiddy morning exercise, we did some stretching by doing head rotations, head tilt up, head tilt down, raising their hands up, hip bending and jumping jacks just to wake them up. Seeing them having fun is good sign that they are interested.

Second we did a role play about a tooth cavity, we explained on how cavities can ruin their teeth and the consequence of having a tooth cavity because you can't eat, sleep and concentrate because of the painful felling of having a tooth decay. We can see in  their eyes that they are afraid of having tooth decay and we asked them, "What will you do to avoid tooth decay" (anong gagawin niyo para hindi masira ngipin niyo?) They all answered "We Brush our teeth" (mag toothbrush na kami palagi) it's great to see children listing and realizing the painful feeling of having a tooth decay.

Third we had games to make them more livelier and to make the program more interesting to children. The first game "Who is the best dancer" having our participants as children of course they're all the best dancers some did dance but some are shy you can tell that they want to dance but they're just shy because they have visitors, they did dance in the tune of Cha-Cha by Ryzza Mae Dizon. They did enjoy the games and the prizes.

Fourth and final program is the Feeding Program, we gave them nutritious food like Pancit having noodles with different varieties of vegetables, chicken sandwich and juice drinks. We aim to educate children to eat nutritious foods like vegetables, meat etc. and to avoid junk foods for them to be healthy and lively. After the feeding program we gave them loot bags with toothbrush, toothpaste, towels, and soap for them to use and apply what they have learned from the health awareness program.

As medical students we need to educate children as early as they can be to influence others on proper ways to health awareness and share to everyone to eat vegetables and not to eat junk foods for them to be healthy because one can influence others to participate in health awareness.

Having this exposure is a great experience for us medical students, sharing our knowledge to everyone and educating people about health awareness. This experience is very unforgettable meeting new people, encouraging children to do something they don't usually do and seeing them learning is a great experience even we're very tired preparing for the program but seeing them smile and participate can lessen our  weary. It feels like giving back without the presence of money but giving back in a meaningful way and educative way.

Thank you San Luis Daycare center for having us, Thank you Ma'am Rhein and Ma'am Maylene, Thank you Kuya Jay for providing our lunch and Thank you Respi II for making this Program meaningful and extraordinary.
